The Suspicious Death of Tumi Gangkak: Suicide or a Silenced Truth?

Published on: March 16, 2025 | Views: 34

On February 24, 2023, the lifeless body of Tumi Gangkak, a former under-secretary of the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC), was discovered under mysterious circumstances near Ganga Lake, along the Jote-Poma road. What initially seemed like an unnatural death quickly spiraled into a complex investigation, riddled with controversial findings, missing funds, and whispers of foul play.

Was it suicide, or did he know too much?

🔍 The Discovery: A Death Wrapped in Mystery

🚨 Who? – Tumi Gangkak, ex-undersecretary of APPSC, under suspension for alleged involvement in the APPSC paper leak scam.
🚨 Where? – Found hanging from a tree between Itanagar Zoo Road tri-junction and Ganga Lake.
🚨 What was found? – A blade, deep cuts on his wrist and leg, but the cause of death was asphyxia—not from the injuries.
🚨 Was it a cover-up? – A question paper manuscript & confidential exam documents were found in his office and car.

The Galo Welfare Society (GWS) and several activists dismissed the suicide theory, claiming he was murdered.

⚖️ Investigation: Too Many Questions, Too Few Answers

The Special Investigation Team (SIT), led by DySP Kengo Dirchi, took charge under Chimpu Police Station case No. 10/2023 U/S 302 IPC (Murder). However, their findings only deepened the mystery:

🔹 14,000 active phone numbers in the area analyzed—no crucial links found.
🔹 18 vehicles inspected—no connection established.
🔹 Two police officers accused of involvement—tracked & cleared of wrongdoing.
🔹 Gangkak’s widow received calls from another inspector, but no foul play confirmed.

The biggest revelation? A missing ₹13.4 lakh voucher, linked to irregular payments and confidential exam handling.

Was he eliminated because he was about to expose something bigger?

🚨 Suspicious Elements: Coincidence or Conspiracy?

🔺 Unusual injuries – While his wrists and leg bore deep cut marks, the official cause of death was asphyxia.
🔺 Missing money & exam leaks – Gangkak had previously received ₹38,01,280 in cash for exam-related tasks.
🔺 Confidential exam files – PGT-2021 manuscript and confidential FAO/TO exam documents found in his possession.
🔺 A staged crime scene? Was he forced to take his own life, or was it made to look like a suicide?

With no solid evidence linking suspects, but too many inconsistencies, the case remains a riddle waiting to be solved.

📢 The Growing Demand for Justice

As public outrage grows, the Galo Students’ Union (GSU) has announced a sit-in protest at IG Park, demanding transparency in the investigation.

With the SIT under pressure and layers of evidence still being analyzed, one question lingers—

Did Tumi Gangkak take his own life, or was he silenced forever?
